Zwilling – a great brand for all kitchen enthusiasts

Zwilling is a brand both for pro and home cooking enthusiasts and it’s known for its premium forged cutlery made in Solingen, Germany – in the "City of Blades". The company’s knives are recognised all over the world and apart from knives, Zwilling offers to its customers quality products such as sharpening steels, knife sharpeners, knife blocks, cutlery, cookware, kitchen utensils, scissors and more.

Zwilling – one of the oldest brands in the world

Zwilling is an internationally known, family-owned company founded in 1731 by Peter Henckels who register the brand’s trademark with the Cutler’s Guild of Solingen, Germany (which makes Zwilling one of the oldest brands in the world today). The company’s name means ‘twin’ and since 1731, the twins (or as some like to say, "double man logo") can be found on all ZWILLING J.A. Henckels products.

Zwilling got its first awards for quality and design in 1851 at the World Fair in London, which was just the beginning of its international success. The first award was followed by the second one in Paris (1855) and in Chicago (1893) where Zwilling won the only medal at the World Fair. More awards followed but it was not only knives that the brand (at that time already present not only in Europe but also in the USA) was known for.

Zwilling patents and iconic designs

In 1938 Zwilling was granted the patent for the "Küchenhilfe" (Kitchen-helper) range of scissors which are still included in its product range today. Actually, they are one of the most widely copied scissors worldwide although it’s the TWIN multi-purpose scissors that are Zwilling's most popular scissors.

In 1939 Zwilling applied for the patent for the ice-hardening process and this technology is still used today with ice-hardened FRIODUR® blades having extremely good cutting-edge retention, flexibility and great corrosion resistance.

Zwilling's best-selling chef's knife range ****FOUR STAR knives with an iconic design that hasn’t changed in over 40 years was developed in 1976, and in 2008 TWIN 1731 chef's knife range was introduced - the first of a new generation of knives.

Over the years Zwilling brand grew and acquired many well-known brands such as the French cookware manufacturer Staub, MIYABI from Japan or the Italian brand Ballarini.

Zwilling mission and vision

As you already know, Zwilling is a 287-year-old brand with a passion for cooking and tradition. But at the same time, it’s a modern company following current and predicting future cooking trends and technologies in order to provide its customers with products that resonate with their lifestyles.

Zwilling knives and other products are made of steel and… passion, using quality materials and the most advanced technologies to ensure the best durability. Zwilling’s mission is to inspire people to cook with every knife as a piece of history and an example of extraordinary craftsmanship.

How to care for your Zwilling knives?

  • Zwilling knives are dishwasher safe, however, it is recommended to wash them by hand. If you don’t want to shorten their lifespan and worsen their retention wash your knives under lukewarm water with mild, non-abrasive soap and a non-scratch cloth or sponge and always dry them immediately
  • don’t let acidic foods stay on the blade as this may cause your knife to tarnish and rust. If you see rust remove it with a "Rust Eraser"
  • carbon steel knives will turn dark grey or black over the years. If you want to minimize this patina, whenever you cut highly acidic foods, rinse and wipe the blade immediately after use
  • except for meat cleavers, Zwilling knives should not be used to cut bones or semi-frozen or frozen foods
  • use appropriate cutting boards that will not dull or damage your knives. Use wooden or quality plastic cutting boards and avoid cutting anything on such surfaces as china, marble, granite, tile, porcelain, stainless-steel countertops and glass.

Don’t misuse your knives – don’t use them as screwdrivers or can openers as it may result in bending or breaking the blade. Please note that the warranty does not cover misuse.
