The Maya series was created in 1962 and has been a certain "family silver" of Scandinavian design ever since. Cutlery is characterised by a handle that tapers forward in a triangular pattern. Then in 2000Stelton updated this classic design, resulting in the Maya 2000series. This stainless steel spoon is thus slimmer, longer and overall more aerodynamic than its older sister. However, it still retains the typical, almost circular scooping part.

The series has been awarded several prestigious design prizes, has been selected for the world's best design and has been exhibited in museums such as MoMA in New York and London's Victoria and Albert Museum.
